Zari Banks shares her faith

Zari Banks shares her inspirational story of perseverance and faith.
Will you share a little about O Lord, Hear My Cry with us?
My book is actually a record of my personal Bible study that I journaled during the most difficult 2 years of my life. It's meant to be read in about 7 minutes a day reading 5 chapters of Psalms, and completed in 30 days.

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
It's not a challenge per se, but I never expected to be a non-fiction author. Even though my formal writing training is in print journalism, I always assumed that I would have published the children's books I've already written first.

Is there a message in your book that you want readers to grasp?
It's written to encourage anyone who's struggling in life to profess their faith with all their might regardless of what they see happening around them. It's a testimony that God is faithful, and that He instructs us to persevere intentionally. As readers go through it they'll see a progression of prayers crying out in desperation with the knowledge that they have faith inside, to rejoicing because my faith has sustained me and prepared me for a victorious future.

Is there a book that has really influenced your life?
I'd have to say the Bible, because other than Children's books and The Shack, it's the only thing I've read more than once.

Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?
I like Leander Jackie Grogan author of Exorcism at Midnight, and I'm waiting with great expectation for Belinda E. Oliver's Prophetic Prayers book due out in January 2012. I have her ebook sample, and it's amazing.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?
I've always been a writer. I remember writing poems and stories at 7. I majored in Journalism in undergrad, and worked as a sports intern at the Tri-City Herald, so maybe the press pass is what did it. I've done various types of freelance writing since 2001.

How would you advise other writers?
Writers -even those born with the gift - become proficient by reading and writing. Commit time to both, and you'll become an expert.
